Dear Katie,

Howdy from Sand Cherry Farms! It’s your friend Sasha, and I’ve got a lot to tell you about what’s been happening here.

The weather’s been a bit funny lately. During the day, it’s warm enough to make you think it’s summer, but at night, it gets so chilly that Grandpa says it’s like living in Walden again. I don’t know where Walden is, but it must be a pretty cool place!

We’ve had a lot of visitors lately – and I don’t just mean the two-legged kind. The last wave of weather brought in a whole bunch of Canada geese, snow geese, and all sorts of ducks. The snow geese are here in such great numbers that they’ve turned our corn field white! It’s quite a sight to see, I tell you.

Grandpa and I have been keeping busy by breaking the ice off the tank at the windmill so the cows can get to water. It’s a bit of a trek from the house, but I love it because I get to stick my head out the window and watch the world go by. We see red-tailed hawks and northern harriers, and sometimes even a bald eagle perched in a mostly dead cottonwood tree.

Our friend Steve came by to gather his cattle the other day. He seemed pretty happy with how they’re doing, which made Grandpa and me feel good. We’ve been working hard to take care of them, after all.

We’ve also been busy setting up a new storage/vehicle cover for the garden tractors, lawn mower, rototillers, and so on. It’s a big job, but it’s worth it to keep everything in good shape.

Oh, and guess what? We’ve got some new neighbors. They’re a bit noisy, with their music and engine revving, but I’m keeping a close eye on them. Don’t worry, Katie, I’ve got everything under control.

Well, that’s all the news from Sand Cherry Farms for now. I hope you’re doing well and having lots of fun adventures of your own. Say hi to Annie for me, okay?

Take care, Katie. I’ll write again soon.

Your friend,
Sasha
